Cynthia Elder
Artist of the Week
April 3 - 9

Cynthia was born in Louisville, KY, the middle child of Fred and Carilynn Pierce.  She bought her first 35 mm camera at 16 with money she made babysitting.  She went to school at Western Kentucky University where she majored in communications and studied photography.

Cynthia always enjoyed taking photographs, shying away from portrait work and concentrating on still life and scenic photography.

Cynthia moved to Western Kentucky in 1992.  She is married to Jimmy Elder of Fancy Farm, KY.  Taking pictures of the farm, the animals and the crops are things that she enjoys.  Cynthia & Jimmy have four children.  Her oldest son, Jay Gravatte is a high school soccer coach and history teacher.  Her oldest daughter, Carilynn Gravatte, having recently completed two degrees at UK has gone to work at Alltech as the European liason on government regulations.  Her daughter, Katie Elder is in the seventh grade.  Katie has entered her photography in several shows and recently won a blue ribbon at Graves County Middle School.  Her youngest son, John Elder, is in the fifth grade.  He hates homework but loves hunting & fishing.

Cynthia looks for economic opportunities with her photography.  She has done several weddings and family portraits but she enjoys taking her pieces to art shows for entry and sales.  She produces greeting cards, prints, storybooks, t-shirts and recently added posters to her inventory.  You can find Cynthia at the Cherokee Triangle Art Show in Louisville April 30 and May 1st and always at the Gourd Patch Festival in Mayfield in the fall.
